The title of the solo show “Buy it All, Eat It All” acts as an ironic catchphrase that best depicts the ever growing consuming-obsessed era. It can be perceived as an inverse mantra, that shouts for awareness and criticism through its conceptual repetition.
I created complex, dystopian narratives to the foreground with a satirical mood and a wry wit. These narratives do not come from an inaccessible future but they highlight problematic conditions of current times. In my subject matter, “sacred” personages from the fast-moving consumed goods – food and entertainment – alongside Christian Orthodox saints who are also part of the consumption industry, occupy a central role.
My work blends together references of Byzantine iconography and editorial cartoons. The combination of these miscellaneous elements, highlights the craftsmanship and brings to the fore the humorous momentum.
Show consists of two big 65x100cm watercolour paintings, three smaller combined technique drawings (two pieces 35x50cm, one piece 70x50cm size), and three Icon pieces, made in traditional technique- egg tempera on wooden board with gold leaf.
